John Raine 5th in West Mercia PCC Election 2016

John Raine 5th place in PCC Election Thurs 5th May 2016

What a wonderful wave of support and goodwill John Raine has received from across the 3 counties in West Mercia, in his quest to become the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election 2016. It is heartening and humbling the sheer number of Green Party supporters and activists who contributed time and money towards his campaign, and John is extremely grateful to all who helped and supported.

"It was very uplifting that colleagues in Worcestershire, Shropshire and Herefordshire gave so generously of their time and donations for the PCC campaign. It would be fantastic if we could keep up this level of co-operation and conversation between individual groups to help the Green Party achieve our other regional goals" he said.

John came 5th in last week's election, which saw the Conservative candidate John-Paul Campion elected. Campion claims he will be 'The People's Commissioner' (was he channelling Batman's Gotham City colleague or Princess Diana?), but we shall see if his words are true to his actions or if he is merely a tool for Tory budget-slashing and outsourcing dogma.

The final results were (in order) Conservative John Campion, Labour Daniel Walton, UKIP Peter Jewell, Independent Barrie Sheldon, Green John Raine and Lib Dem Margaret Rowley. John got 14,323 votes and keeps his deposit! Many thanks again to all of you who gave such warm and generous support.
